Food Sanitation & Handling:  (Meets DCFS Requirements) 

Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to teach attendees the concepts and information they require to pass the Illinois Department of Public Healthy Food Management Certification (IDPH).  

Objectives:  Upon Completion, Student Will

  • Know the main causes of food-borne illness, and how to prevent it
  • Know the specific time and temperature parameters for ensuring the safety of food
  • Know he proper storage and use techniques for food, utensils, chemicals and pesticides with your facility
  • Know the proper hygienic and cleaning techniques for food- service facilities
  • Know the physical requirements for facilities and equipment used for food service

Duration:

  • Twenty (20) Hour Course
    • Including a Two (2) Hour Examination

Food Safety & Handling:  (Does Not Lead To Certification)

Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to teach attendees the concepts and information that are required for proper food handling. 

Objectives:  Upon completion, students will

  • Understand what food safety is
    • Steps taken to prevent food borne illnesses
  • What make food unsafe
  • Proper food preparation and handling
  • Prevention of Cross-Contamination
  • Proper food service, reception and storage according to IDPH & DCFS
  • Proper cleaning and sanitation

Understanding Asthma:

Course Description:

The purpose of the course is to equip daycare providers with the information necessary to understand and care for children afflicted with Asthma.

Objectives:  Upon Completion, Student Will

  • Understand the nature of, various causes of the disease
  • Understand the health risks associated with the disease
  • Know the typical triggers of Asthma attacks and understand how to prevent crises
  • Know the measures that must be taken to preserve life in the event of an Asthma attack
  • Know steps that can be taken within the daycare environment that may reduce the danger posed to Asthmatics within the facility

Infant & Pediatric CPR / First Aid:

Course Description:

Through Practice, use of a training video and discussion of what needs to be done when and why, attendees are taught the techniques of CPR and First Aid.  Our instructors are American Heart Association and Red Cross certified.  Either certification is available upon request.

Objectives:  Upon Completion, Student Will

  • Be familiar with Infant & Child (Adults) CPR
  • Know how to use an AED
  • Know how to intervene in the case of a chocking
    child or infant
  • Know how to administer First Aid
  • Know how to protect themselves and the wounded individual when administering First Aid and
    performing CPR

  • Five (5) Hour Course

Medication Administration:

Course Description:

Medication is an important part of healthy and maintenance when administered properly.  As Childcare professionals, part of our job is to protect the children in our care.  The purpose of this course is to equip daycare providers with the information required to properly store and administer medications to the children in their facilities   

Objectives:  Upon Completion, Student Will

  • Be familiar with DCFS standards concerning the storage and administration of medication in a daycare setting
  • Understand the importance of good record-keeping, as well as how to keep good records of medicine administration and parent consent
  • Know and understand the measures that must to be taken to protect the child as well as the provider during the administration of medication

 Mildly Ill Childcare:

Course Description:

The purpose is to equip daycare providers with the skills and information necessary to determine which children should be included or excluded for daycare facilities on the basis of illness, according to DCFS standards.

Objectives: Upon Completion, Students Will

  • Be able to identify which illnesses and conditions necessitate a child's exclusion from daycare, as well as those which are permissible according to DCFS standards
  • Understand the importance for making prudent decision concerning the inclusion and exclusion of children from the daycare facility, including the consequences of making poor decisions concerning the inclusion and exclusion of children
  • Know how to perform daily health checks of the children
    in their care
  • Know the measures that must be taken to avoid the spread of illness within the daycare facility
  • Understand the importance of, and have the skills necessary to develop a protocol for managing sick children

Understanding Premature Infants:   

Course Description:

The purpose is to inform daycare providers of the health and developmental challenges often times faced by premature infants.  

Objectives:  Upon Completion, Student Will

  • Have the ability to identify the common health and developmental challenges faced by premature infants
  • Know and understand the extra measures that often times need to be taken in order to care for the premature infants  
  • Understand the importance of, and have the skills necessary to care for premature infants

Universal Precautions — Blood Borne Pathogens 

Course Description:

The Purpose of the course is to equip daycare providers with the information necessary to recognize potential sites for disease transmission, as well as the skills necessary to prevent it.  OSHA guidelines for Universal Precautions are discussed.

Objectives Upon Completion, Students Will

  • Understand Universal Precautions and how they help protect from blood-borne pathogens
  • Be able to identify situations in which there is the potential for disease transmission
  • Know specific measures that can be taken to prevent disease transmission
  • Be able to name the major blood-borne pathogens that pose a threat to staff and children
  • Understand the importance of taking universal precautions

Water Safety:

Course Description:

The purpose of the course is to teach children how to stay safe in the presence of water.
