Certified Hearing & Vision Screening

Hearing and Vision Screenings technicians are IDHP certified and well accustomed to working with children 6 months to 18 years of age.  We will use the most up-to-date equipment and techniques to ensure efficient and accurate evaluation of the hearing and vision of the children in your care.

Why Screening is Important:

  • Screening allows for the detection of conditions that may pose a threat to children's hearing and vision
  • Undiagnosed hearing and vision problems can affect children's ability to learn as well as their performance in school
  • Poor hearing can affect a child's ability to speak correctly

Who Should be Screened:

  •  DCFS mandates that all preschool children three and older in licensed daycare facilities receive annual hearing and vision screenings
  • The Illinois School Code mandates that all school age children in kindergarten, second and eighth grade, special education classes, transfer students and children referred by teachers receive vision screening
  • The Illinois School Code mandates that children in kindergarten, first, second and third grade, special education classes, transfer students and students having been referred by a teacher received hearing screening

How a Child's Hearing & Vision Are Screened:

  • Hearing screenings are performed using an audiometer.  Audiometers test a child's ability to hear different frequencies at low intensities
  • For children three and older, vision screenings are conducted using a letter chart to evaluate the ability to see clearly at a distance.  For children 0-3, a machine is used to take measurements of the eye to evaluate acuity as well as to test for amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (muscle balance)
