 Alzheimer's : When Memory Fails

 Course Description:  The purpose of this course is to educate attendees about Alzheimer's and dementia.  Among the topics discussed in the class are; The Nature of the Disease:  1). What to  expect as someone diagnosed with Alzheimer's, 2). Someone caring for a loved one with the conditions, 3). Ways to cope as the condition progresses.  

Course Objectives:  Upon Completion, Attendees Will

  • Know about Alzheimer's and dementia  including the average age of onset and the physical  mental and emotional changes that accompany the condition
  • Know what to expect
  • Be familiar with the different treatments of the condition
  • Know some of the coping mechanisms that can be employed by caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's to ease stress as the condition progresses

Food Certification Manager

Course Description:  The purpose is to teach attendees the concepts and information they require to pass the Illinois Department of Public Health Food Manager Certification exam.  Completion of the course does not guarantee certification  however all eighteen hours of the courses must be successfully completed before attendees may sit for the exam.  

***In the case of individuals possessing a current Food Sanitation Manager's certificate, they are only required to attend five hours of the class in order to take the IDPH manager's exam and receive a score of 75% or better.  For individuals re-certifying City of Chicago, however, it is mandatory for current managers to re-take the City of Chicago test before their certification expires.

Objective:  Upon Completion, Attendees Will

  • Know the main causes of food-borne illness and prevention
  • Know the specific time and temperature parameters for ensuring the safety of food
  • Know the proper storage and use techniques for food, utensils, chemicals and pesticides within a food-service facility
  • Know the property hygienic and cleaning techniques for food service facilities
  • Know the physical requirements for faculties and equipment use for food service 
Duration:
  • Twenty (20) Hour Course
  • With Two (2) Hour Exam

Healthcare Provider CPR / AED

Course Description:  Through practice, use of a training video and discussion of what needs to be done when and why.  Attendees are taught the techniques of CPR and First Aid.  Our instructors and American Heart Association and Red Cross certified.  Either certification is available upon request. 

Course Objectives:  Upon Completion, Attendees Will

  • Be familiar with adult, infant and child CPR
  • Know how to use an AED
  • Know how to intervene in the case of a choking child or adult
  • Know how to administer first aid
  • Know how to protect themselves and the wounded individual when administering First Aid and performing CPR

CNA Refresher Course

Course Description:  

This course is intended to provide a re-introduction to the certified nursing assistant field if you have not worked in the field for awhile or simply need to review basic skills.  The course is needed to make certain that you still have the knowledge and skills you need to work as a nursing assistant.

Protect Your Kidneys: A Guide to Avoiding Dialysis

Course Description:  The purpose of this course is to educate attendees about the common preventable illnesses, such as hypertension and diabetes, which lead to kidney failure, and the measures that can be taken to manage and avoid them altogether.  This healthy class will also include a discussion about dialysis, including details about what the procedure entails as well as when and why it may become necessary.  

Course Objectives:  Upon Completion, Attendees Will

  • Know details about the dialysis procedure
  • Know the major parts of the body dialysis affects
  • Know what common preventable illnesses lead to key failure and dialysis
  • Know the measures that can be taken to prevent developing these preventable illnesses
  • Know the measures that can be taken to manage these conditions to prevent kidney disease

Women & Heart Disease

Course Description:  The purpose of this course is to educate attendees about heart disease in general. and in particular, about how this condition affects women.  Some of the topics discussed will be the prevalence and impact of heart disease among different populations of women, as well as ways in which heart disease may be managed and prevented.

Course Objectives:  Upon Completion, Attendees Will

  • Know what heart disease is
  • How heart disease develops, and how to prevent it
  • Know the prevalence of the condition among women in general, as well as among women of particular ethnicity
  • Know the steps that can be taken following the development of heart disease to maintain heart health
  • Be familiar with the different treatments for the condition
